I:60 Wall Licker

Image
A Wall Licker for Jesus. The more I give up, the more He fills up. Over the past three years, God has worked overtime in my life. What I've found is that all the things I held so strongly, God has shown me how wrong I was. In discovering this, I can't help but think of a man named Saul. For those who are not familiar with Saul, he was a strong and well-equipped Jewish leader, a rising star. He was so zealous for God that he almost missed the point of all that God was showing him. Saul loved God and did all he could to be God's enforcer in his own right regarding the Jewish religion. But God loved Saul. He loved Saul enough to break Saul and sort of give Saul a long “time out”. God's Son, Jesus, met Saul on the road to Damascus, where Paul was on his way to persecute more Christians. But Jesus overwhelmed Paul on his journey and said these words to Saul, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” The last part of what Jesus sa...

i:60 We Are Not a Church But We Are a Church.

Image
We Are Not a Church But We Are a Church. Does not make much sense. But on the contrary, it does. As a follower of Christ my entire life I have been part of the American church. So I am fluent in Christianese. I know all the types of theology. I know church etiquette, the debate about worship, and the debate about free will. When it comes to men’s groups I've been around the block a few times. Most of my life I couldn't stand men's groups and when I had to attend one I would find a place to hide and have a dip of Skoal and sip on an energy drink. For those who know me would say I'm an extrovert always around people but the real me really wanted to be an introvert and when it came to men’s groups I'd easily become one and take off somewhere to be alone with God in my own way. Then something changed about 2 ½ years ago and I won't go into the details because it is hard enough to get a man to read a paragraph let alone 2 or 3 pages. I was invited to attend an event...

i:60 And I Loathed That Generation

Image
And I loathed that generation…. Psalm 95 was brought to my attention last Sunday and in Psalm 95 verses 7-11 drew me in even more but it was the beginning of verse 10 that really caused me to think about the relationship between God and us, a stiff neck people. In God's own words He says this., “For forty years I loathed that generation……. "Just for the sake of those who are reading this I want to clarify that God is speaking of the Israelites who He brought out slavery from Egypt and allowed them to roam the wilderness for forty years before entering the promise land. I don't know about you but to be loathed by someone is pretty intense. Think about the thought of loathing someone, you don’t want to be around them, they make your skin crawl, no respect for them in any regards, they make you physically sick and you want nothing to do with them. And here we have God saying this about the people He chose to be descendants from the line of Christ. “For forty years I loathed t...

I:60 Message In A Bottle

Image
Message In A Bottle “Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh Another lonely day, with no one here but me, oh More loneliness than any man could bear, Rescue me before I fall into despair, oh” The Police, "message in the bottle"(1979) The first thought that led to the second thought. First thought, last Monday we had our Men's fellowship called M6 (men at 6pm). A lot of men came and many new faces joined us. But in the end, some men left that we may never see again. One of the hardest struggles in being men who desire that all men would surrender their lives to Christ is that some won't. As men who have tasted and found that the Lord is good, their whole life purpose is to share that fruit with fellow men, knowing that if those men would give Christ a chance, they too would see and taste the goodness of God's mercy and grace. But some leave us with no way to follow up and encourage them. They leave as shipwrecked and abandoned as they first arrived. For me, t...

I:60 God is not a Magic Wand nor is a Genie in a Lamp

Image
God is not a Magic Wand nor is He a Genie in a Lamp. I pray and pray, why doesn’t God just fix it? I mean, it would benefit both He and I and probably others around me? It is a question often asked by all of us at some point in our lives. There have been many times in my life when I have asked these questions and been almost disrespectful in my frustration while praying to God. I’ve come to Him in complete surrender, asking Him to take from me a burden or weakness in my life and His answers are not the answers I wanted. But as a man who just turned 57, I have had the opportunity to look back and see those answers from a different perspective. In the past 50 plus years, I see how faithful He has been. Every prayer that I have prayed to Him has been answered with my best interest in His mind . At the time of the prayer I could not see His wisdom. God is not used as a magic wand or a genie in a lamp. He doesn’t make deals, nor does He compromise by meeting us halfway. It’s either all o...
