WORD UP

60 secs Go! The greatest influence in your life won't be a person, movie, program, group, or church. Your greatest influence, which will speak truth and cause lasting change, will be the Word of God - the Bible. This book will become your greatest treasure when you devote genuine time to reading and understanding what God has to show you. For most men, the greatest hurdle in their spiritual walk is the desire to read. This is the most common response I get from my brothers in Christ when I ask what they've discovered in God's Word lately. This hurdle must be overcome by every man seeking God. Before reading God's Word, pray and ask the Spirit to guide you and open your mind and heart to scripture. Then, open your Bible to the New Testament, start with a book like John, and begin reading. Start with short reads, maybe 3-5 minutes. Have a highlighter or red pen in hand and highlight words or verses that cause thoughts, emotions, or stand out. When finished reading, go back to the highlighted scriptures and pray to God about what concerns you or gives you joy. When finished praying, use what you read to influence your day, maybe focusing on a key word God gave you. 60 seconds is up. 


Extra Curricular Time: Here's an example - John 1:16 'For from His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.' Thought: God's grace is unlimited; it's hard to comprehend. God, I'm always screwing up, saying the wrong things, and my pride won't allow me to say I'm sorry. I argue over things that don't matter, and I'm always angry, yet You show me endless grace. Application: Today, I'll focus on the word 'grace.' I'll hold my thoughts, actions, and mouth captive until they pass through 'GRACE.'

Warriors in Prayer-Like the Wave of the Sea... A few months ago, I heard a song with a lyric that caught my attention - empty prayers. I couldn't help but think back on my prayer life. How many times had I prayed to you, God, out of obligation, going through the motion without sincerity or consideration of the honor of whom I am able to petition to? I became a man who would approach the throne of the Almighty God, offering empty prayers. I was the praying warrior tossed by the waves of James 1:6. I became resentful when always being asked to pray at events and family functions. I started slipping more and more in my prayer life, convincing myself that I wasn't gifted in prayer, so I excused myself from it.
