Everyday

Everyday.......

Every morning that we wake, we all entertain the thought of what the day holds for us. Some of us awake excited, others a little more hesitant. Either way, our day has already begun. How we start our mornings has a great effect on our day and its tasks. I'm a self-employed carpenter. My day is usually filled with a lot of physical labor and working with people. Some of the projects I look forward to doing, some of the people I look forward to seeing, and others not so much. But what I have learned is that my joy is not based on what I'm having to do that day, but rather on who I get to do it with, who I'm doing it for, and what my true purpose and objective is for that day. Putting God first in your morning will have an amazing effect on your day.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. “Col 3:17

How?

It’s in the way we pray, how we pray, and the perspective we pray from. When we learn to have passionate pray, our relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit grows deeper. You will actually look forward to meeting with God. I think one of the key elements in the fullness of prayer is understanding who God is and who we are not. Secondly, is simply to be honest. I know that may sound strange, knowing that God knows everything, but quite often we forget that in our prayers and do not come to Him in full transparency and in full surrender. Here are a few ideas that have helped me. The acronym ACTS will help keep you focused while you pray and guide your thoughts on who you are talking to.

A - Adoration: proclaiming who God is. Just think of all His names and all that He does and has done. Try not to thank Him, but rather proclaim His titles. King David displays this well in his Psalms.

C - Confession: This is where honesty will have an effect on the rest of your prayers. Spend time asking God to search your heart and find all that holds you back from being closer to Him. King David also does this well.

T - Thankfulness: This is the part that will help your day the most. Spend a lot of time thanking God. If I'm outside praying, I may open my eyes and look at all that He has done and thank Him for it. Yeah David again

S - Supplication: Bring all that you have to Him. Even the goldfish😉 need I mention David again?

Before you pray through the ACTS of prayer, I find that at times I need something to kickstart my conversation with the Almighty. I call these kickstarts, "prayer primers." I simply go to the book of Psalms and read a verse or two to help stimulate the magnitude of who I'm talking with and what He can do. After a while you will no longer need an acronym you will just pray from your heart.

So put your coffee on hold for the morning and start with God your helper the maker of Heaven and earth.

Enjoy this day that the Lord has made and rejoice in it.
